THE COUNTDOWN is now well and truly on, with only four days remaining of this year's NAB AFL Trade Period before Thursday afternoon's deadline.

The first week of trading ended with an impasse between Essendon and St Kilda over Jake Carlisle's future, with a number of key deals yet to be sorted out.

But after a quiet weekend, we are expecting some activity in the early part of this week as a number of mooted trades reach resolution.

AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest movement every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday October 22.

Could Charlie be the key?

Two of the big fish of the exchange period could be tied into the same deal in a four-way trade.

The Age reports St Kilda and Port Adelaide have put forward an option for Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon to be a part of the Jake Carlisle deal.

So far the Power have baulked at the Suns' demands for two first-round picks for Dixon, while the Saints have been unwilling to offer Essendon pick five in isolation in exchange for Carlisle.

The Bombers swiftly knocked back the Saints' offer last week of pick five and 63 for Carlisle and Essendon's two second-round selections.

But reports suggest both players could be involved in a mega-trade to deliver all parties a fair outcome.
In the deal, Port Adelaide would trade its pick 10 and likely a future first-round selection to St Kilda for pick 5. The Saints would hand over pick 10 for Carlisle, and Port would give pick No.5 to the Suns for Dixon.

Such a deal would give the Suns picks three and five, as well as No. 16 and 19, at November's NAB AFL Draft.

Treloar to kick off week two

The highly anticipated Adam Treloar trade is expected to start proceedings for the final week of dealing, with the Herald Sun reporting the Giants are confident it will go through early in the week.

There has been some to-ing and fro-ing with the deal, with Collingwood believed to have upped its offer to two first-round picks – No.7 this year and a future pick in 2016. The Giants are also tipped to hand back a draft selection as part of the trade.

The Magpies look set to be major players in the last few days of the trade period with plenty of activity revolving around the club.

James Aish is determined to land there despite receiving strong interest from North Melbourne, and Jeremy Howe has chosen the Pies as his preferred destination.

Young Pies Ben Kennedy and Paul Seedsman are also expected to exit the club for more opportunities at Melbourne and Adelaide respectively.

Free agency period quietly closes

The League's free agency period closed on Sunday with little fanfare after only a handful of transactions this year.

Following Geelong and Adelaide's decision to trade for Patrick Dangerfield instead of use the free agency mechanism for him to depart clubs, the highest profile free agency switch was Matt Suckling's move from Hawthorn to the Western Bulldogs.

Restricted free agent Scott Selwood jumped from West Coast to join his brother Joel at Geelong, while Matthew Leuenberger took up Essendon's offer and departed the Brisbane Lions.

Last week Greater Western Sydney also signed unrestricted free agent Dawson Simpson from the Cats.

The free agency period opened on October 9, three days before the trade period, and shut on Sunday at 5pm. Had an offer been made to a restricted free agent on Sunday, his club would have had until Wednesday to match the bid.

There are three more delisted free agency periods to come before final lists are lodged for the 2016 season on December 1.
