CARLTON has been decimated by injury and may have just 25 fit players to pick from for its final game of the season against Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday.
Emerging defender Sam Docherty had hip surgery on Monday after pulling up sore in recent weeks, while captain Marc Murphy had shoulder surgery on Monday.
The Blues have also added Chris Yarran, whom trade speculation surrounds, to their injury list after scans revealed he suffered a hamstring strain against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.
They will also almost certainly put a line through David Ellard after he sustained a concussion against the Giants.
"David will complete the relevant concussion tests this week," Blues football manager Andrew McKay said.
"He had a concussion earlier on this year, which was quite significant as well, so we’ll obviously need to be very conservative with David."
Veteran Blue Andrew Carrazzo is likely to return from a toe injury this week but Dennis Armfield, who has not played since round 15 because of a broken arm, will struggle to prove himself fit before this weekend's game.
The lack of available players has been compounded by the retirement of Chris Judd and the departure of Lachie Henderson, who parted ways with the club earlier this month after he requested to be traded at the end of the season.
The Hawks annihilated the Blues by 138 points the last time the teams met in round 17, with Jack Gunston booting six goals and Jordan Lewis (36 disposals), Sam Mitchell (35) and Luke Hodge (32) running rampant in the midfield.
