GREATER Western Sydney star Dylan Shiel will miss Monday’s Brownlow Medal event in Melbourne due to the concussion he suffered in Saturday's preliminary final loss to Richmond.
Tigers captain Trent Cotchin collected Shiel in the face during the opening quarter of the match with his right shoulder, but was cleared of any wrongdoing despite the fact the star Giant was ruled out of the game after quarter-time.
It means the Richmond skipper is free to play against Adelaide in Saturday's Grand Final.
Shiel is expected to poll well in tonight's count after being named All Australian for the first time earlier this month, but he's been advised by GWS medical staff to stay in Sydney as he recovers from the hit.
Giants players will undergo their season-ending meetings and medical checks later this week, with Shiel a chance to require surgery on his troublesome right shoulder.
The 24-year-old played all 25 games this season but was noticeably affected by pain in the shoulder on several occasions during the year, and went to ground clutching the joint after being crunched by Cotchin.
