ANDREW Gaff's stunning brain fade may have inadvertently boosted star West Coast midfielder Elliot Yeo's chances of winning the Brownlow Medal.

A barnstorming run home from Yeo has seen him pick up nine votes from his past five games to take his tally to 19 in AFL.com.au's Brownlow predictor.

That sees him sit third behind Hawthorn ball magnet Tom Mitchell and Carlton onballer Patrick Cripps, who are both on 21.

After Gaff was banned for eight games following his hit that left Fremantle young gun Andrew Brayshaw with a broken jaw, four displaced teeth and unable to eat solid food for a month, there is one fewer Eagle to take votes away from Yeo.

Gaff has notched up 14 votes to sit equal-11th.

Superstar Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe is on 20 but can't win the award after he copped a one-match suspension for striking Collingwood hard nut Levi Greenwood in round 11.

West Coast faces Port Adelaide (away), Melbourne (home) and Brisbane (away) in its run home.

Yeo, 24, has not traditionally been a favourite of the umpires, having garnered 12 votes in his 101 home and away games leading up to this year.

However, he is putting together an excellent campaign and is ranked No.2 in the AFL for total inside-50s, No.5 for total tackles, No.7 for total metres gained and No.11 for total contested possessions.

Yeo is on the seventh line of betting at $41 with CrownBet to win the award, with Mitchell the short-priced favourite at $1.33.
