MATTHEW Leuenberger says he wants to be a Brisbane Lion for life after signing a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old ruckman has been the subject of much speculation, with interest reportedly coming from a number of clubs including Greater Western Sydney.

But Leuenberger said he never contemplated leaving the Gabba, seeing a bright future for the young Lions list.

"I was pretty keen to get it over and done with quite quickly," he said before training on Wednesday morning.

"I like the idea of being a one-club player and loyalty, and it's something I hold in high value, so I wanted to hang around.

"There's a lot of young kids here and I think that's the most attractive thing about our list at the moment.

"There's some real talented individuals coming through, I feel, and I haven't had too much success here so I want to come through with those blokes."
Leuenberger's seven-season career has been littered with injuries, including a torn achilles that cost him most of 2012.

In his nine games this season, the 204cm West Australian has shown he has lost none of his mobility and athleticism around the ground and has clearly been one of the Lions' best players.

With just 78 career games to his name, Leuenberger said he still had plenty to prove.

"I like to think I can be a significantly better player than what I am right now," he said.

"The reality is I've had a lot of injuries in my career and I haven't really had the continuity in my training and playing.

"I'd like to think if I had a bit of luck and can string together the next two years on the training track and on the field, I can be a better player than what I am.

"When people think of us they think of Rich, Redden, Rockliff, those guys are 22, 23 and then there's a whole bunch of players below them in age.

"When they all start coming through and hitting 25, I think we'll be a far better group than what we are now."

In further good news for the Lions, small forward Dayne Zorko has also re-signed until the end of 2016, with a three-year deal.

The Lions will now set their sights on securing the signatures of Daniel Rich and Pearce Hanley, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.

"From what I understand they're quite close, so I can't imagine they'll be too far away and hopefully they follow," Leuenberger said.
