All eyes will be on Collingwood premiership trio Darren Jolly, Ben Johnson and Brent Macaffer when they return from injury in the VFL against Sandringham on Sunday afternoon.
Jolly (knee) has not played since the Anzac Day clash with Essendon in round five while Johnson (hamstring) has been sidelined since the VFL match against Coburg last month. His last AFL outing was against the Western Bulldogs in round six.
Macaffer has not tasted senior action since the round two win over North Melbourne, and has been sidelined from the VFL since round five with a broken foot. He and Jolly returned from a two-week high altitude camp in Arizona last weekend.
All three have recovered from their respective injuries, and will take their first steps to returning to the senior line up against the Zebras at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
The Magpies (3W 7L) have lost their past four games, but tackle a similarly placed side, for the Zebras (4W 5L) are only two spots ahead of them on the ladder.
Sunday’s game represents the best opportunity for Magpie fans to see their side in action this weekend, with the AFL side facing Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
The three emergencies for Saturday night’s match are Alex Fasolo and the untried Luke Rounds and Lachlan Keeffe. All are named in Tarkyn Lockyer’s VFL squad for the coming weekend.
Both Collingwood and Sandringham enjoyed a week’s break last weekend, and the Zebras are likely to field a number of well known St Kilda players seeking a call up to the senior side.
