WEST Coast captain Luke Shuey has welcomed the AFL's decision to commit to a 17-round season but says players will make it known if they have concerns about playing amid the coronavirus crisis.
Eagles players were due to meet on Monday evening to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, airing their views as a group before then meeting with the AFL Players' Association.
Shuey said he was yet to be approached by a player who felt uncomfortable about the prospect of playing as clubs now await the League's decision on whether round one begins as scheduled.
"The positives are that we'll get to play some footy. I'm looking forward to that," Shuey said in a teleconference on Monday.
"It's great that we're going to get to play some footy, and hopefully for us that's this Sunday.
"We love the game. But we weigh up the health risks and all of that stuff and if it's not in our best interests then we'll make that known.
"At this stage it all seems like it's OK to go ahead and that's exciting for us."
League CEO Gillon McLachlan confirmed on Monday he had held discussions with AFLPA boss Paul Marsh about the prospect of player pay cuts due to playing fewer matches.
Shuey said that was a topic the players would address when they meet with their association.

"I guess we've got to weigh up our own interests but also the interests of plenty of other people around the competition and around the country who help our game operate the way it does," the Norm Smith medallist said.
The Eagles are scheduled to take on Melbourne at an empty Optus Stadium on Sunday, and Shuey said the players would miss their fans.
He didn't, however, expect the change in atmosphere would diminish their performance.

"I think of why we fell in love with the game as kids and we weren't playing in front of 50,000 back when we were seven, eight or nine years old," Shuey said.
"I'm sure when we flick into game mode this weekend we'll be OK.
"But obviously from a West Coast point of view we'll certainly miss our fans as much as I'm sure they'll miss us.
"But fingers crossed we can put on a good show for them on Sunday and see them very soon."
Jack Darling is set to play in the season-opener after overcoming a cheekbone fracture, with Shuey declaring the key forward was a standout in Friday's intraclub.
Star defender Jeremy McGovern is also expected to play after a summer interrupted by heel surgery.
"[Darling] had a good hitout Friday and was probably our best player on track in our intraclub," Shuey said.
"That's a really good sign for us and looking forward to having him back. I think we've missed him over the Marsh Series.
"We got a few minutes into 'Gov', a bump up from what he played in the second Marsh Series game."
