Albert Proud probably doesn’t strike fans as one of the Lions players most likely to undergo regular ‘manscaping’.

But the 22 year-old has good reason - his girlfriend Hailey has recently opened her own business that specialises in waxing, spray-tanning, manicures and pedicures for both men and women.

Proud says the business - which is appropriately called ‘Strip It Off’ - has opened his eyes to the types of treatments that some men put themselves through for the sake of their appearance.

While the Lions utility admits that Hailey has helped him warm to the idea of men’s grooming, he claims he’s still a fair way off some of his more metrosexual team-mates.

“Justin Sherman would have to be the guy who spends the most time on his appearance at the Club,” Proud said. “He gets a full body wax and loves a spray tan.”

“Brent Staker is very particular about his hair and Bart McCulloch gets his eyebrows done,” he said.

“Guys like Tim Notting, Joel Macdonald and Troy Selwood all used to enjoy their treatments as well.”

“Hailey makes me get my body and arms waxed. Sometimes I just can’t take getting the legs done - it’s too painful. I don’t know how Shermo can go through with it.”

“It certainly gives you a bit of an appreciation of what most girls go through,” he said.

Proud believes there are a few other Lions players who could benefit from visiting Hailey’s salon at some stage during the off-season.

“They would probably never go, but Ash McGrath and Tom Collier really need to get a chest wax,” he said.

Hailey is no stranger to beauty therapy having already worked at Jamie Charman’s Number 19 Men’s Day Spa before it closed a couple of years ago.

Now her new business is already starting to get the attention of some of the Lions players and their partners.

“A few of the boys are coming to visit me when they get back from holidays to have their legs waxed,” Hailey said.

“I also nearly convinced Pearce Hanley that he should get a spray tan.”

She also claims that her work is what brought her and Proud together in the first place.

“That’s how Albert tried to court me,” she said. “He came into the salon to get some waxing done and never left!”

Hailey is now offering all Brisbane Lions members a 10% discount on her services upon presentation of their 2010 membership card.

She invites men and women of all ages to visit the salon and potentially get treated alongside some of the Lions.
