Jake Carlisle, Essendon, has been charged with a level two striking offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for striking Lance Franklin, Hawthorn, during the first quarter of the round 18 match between Essendon and Hawthorn, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 26, 2013.

He has 93.75 demerit points carried over from within the past 12 months, increasing the penalty to 173.75 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 130.31 points and a one-match sanction.

 

Contact between Gold Coast's Greg Broughton and Carlton's Dennis Armfield from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The ball was loose with Armfield seeking to take possession when Broughton comes to the contest from the opposite direction. Broughton bends down to pick up the ball and then braces for contact as Armfield runs into him. It was the view of the panel that Broughton had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

 

Contact between the Western Bulldogs' Liam Jones and West Coast's Eric Mackenzie from the first quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. A 50-metre penalty was paid against player Jones at the time of the incident for the high contact, and the panel deemed no further action was required.

 

Contact between the Western Bulldogs' Daniel Giansiracusa and West Coast's Josh Kennedy from the second quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Kennedy and Giansiracusa are approaching the loose ball from opposite directions. As Kennedy taps the ball away from the contest, Giansiracusa braces for contact and has his eyes on the ball at all times. It was the view of the panel that Giansiracusa had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
