GEELONG defender Jared Rivers has been rewarded for his outstanding 2014 campaign with a one-year contract extension.
The Cats did not reveal the length of the term, but AFL.com.au understands the 29-year-old is now signed up until the end of the 2015 season.
Rivers has bounced back with a vengeance this year, playing 19 games and averaging a career-high six marks per game.
That followed a forgettable first season at the club, where Rivers was restricted to 10 matches because of a series of knee issues.
Rivers, who made the move to Geelong from Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2012 season, said he has fully adapted to his new environment.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity the Cats gave me two seasons ago and it was an easy decision to stay on with the club," Rivers said.
"My teammates have made me feel welcome from day one and I'm enjoying every minute of being here.
"My body is feeling great and the knowledge that we have a big opportunity not only this year but going forward made it an easy decision."
Geelong football manager Neil Balme said Rivers had proven himself worthy this season.
"Jared is a fantastic individual who has already brought a lot to the side," Balme said.
"We have been delighted with the impact he has made to the club are pleased that he will be able to continue on as a Cats player beyond this season."
Rivers looms as an important piece in Geelong's defensive structure in finals, given his ability to play above his height, especially if Harry Taylor is shifted forward.
The 194cm defender has impressed many with his defensive positioning and ability to reach around his opponent to deliver an important spoil this season.
Rivers has played 179 games with the Demons and the Cats and 2015 will be his 13th year in the League.
