ADAM Goodes' stance against racism made a powerful impact over the weekend, with a tweet he wrote in support of the girl at the centre of the incident being re-tweeted almost 4000 times.

The dual Brownlow medallist reacted very strongly when a girl in the crowd for the Sydney Swans' victory over Collingwood on Friday night called him an "ape" late in the fourth quarter.

The following day Goodes held a press conference voicing his distress over the matter, while also asking for calm and stating he would listen if the girl involved made contact with him.

The 13-year-old did reach out to the superstar later that day, prompting Goodes to pen the following tweet.

"Just received a phone call from a young girl apologizing for her actions," he wrote.

"Lets support her please"

He then added the hashtags #racismstopswithme and #IndigenousRound.

There was overwhelming support for Goodes throughout the weekend and the message was re-tweeted almost 4,000 times.

Goodes, who only joined Twitter earlier this year, also had his number of followers swell from 4000 to nearly 16,000.

The young girl has since written a letter to Goodes apologising for the racist remark, although the Swans champion made it clear he didn't hold her personally responsible.

"It's not a witch-hunt. I don't want people to go after this young girl," he said on Saturday.

"We just need to educate our society better so it doesn't happen again."

Goodes remained in Melbourne over the weekend, but will soon be back in Sydney to begin preparations for Saturday's clash with Essendon at the SCG.
