IT'S NOT a line the Brisbane Lions have used for a very long time, but captain Jed Adcock says they must guard against complacency ahead of Saturday night's match against Greater Western Sydney.

The Lions have beaten Carlton and the Western Bulldogs in successive weeks to leapfrog the Giants and lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

Returning to the Gabba for the first time since the stirring comeback win over the Blues two weeks ago, Adcock is wary of the improving opposition.

After narrow losses against Hawthorn and Essendon in the past fortnight, he says the first quarter would be crucial against the Giants.

"We've got to be careful we don't get complacent," Adcock said.

"Against any young team, if you give them a chance early they can … use their young legs to get on top of the older guys.

"You've got to stop them early and not give them a look in."

Adcock said the Lions had put the first part of the season behind them and had now focused on the block of seven matches between their two byes.

While the focus after the past two victories has mainly centred on the shortcomings of their opposition, Adcock said there was plenty to be excited about for the second half of the season.

The emergence of the 'Mozzie Squad' – livewire forwards Dayne Zorko, Josh Green and Lewy Taylor – had been a catalyst for quicker ball movement and heavier scoring.

In the past two weeks the Lions have scored an average of 96.5 points a game, significantly up from the season average of 67.

That is in large part due to their trio of whippets that all measure in at 176cm and shorter.

In the two wins they have combined for an average of 54 disposals, 3.5 goals and 3.5 goal assists.

"They're a hard match-up for any defence, to have three defenders to match our small forwards," Adcock said.

"That's definitely a strength of ours now. We've probably gone from being a slow outfit to now quite a quick outfit with those three in the side, playing well."
