EXILED Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey will give the Magpies hierarchy plenty to think about after an impressive display in the intraclub hit-out at the Holden Centre on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old is banned indefinitely from the AFL side after he was caught drink driving last Saturday, but put in a strong performance through the midfield in the scratch match.

"He was really good tonight. Obviously an emotional week, so much for him to prove to his teammates, the coaches, the supporters and the footy world," assistant coach Brenton Sanderson told reporters.

"He's just got a long way to go now, hasn't he? To his credit, he came out with the right attitude tonight.

"He played a good balance of attack and defence and really hit the ground running, so we know he's in for a big season.

"He's going to have to live with that. He's going to have to cop a fair bit of scrutiny, both on and off the field, for a fair way ahead. That's a small step tonight."

De Goey wrapped up upon his first touch at Collingwood's intraclub.

Sanderson acknowledged Collingwood would be a better side with De Goey in it.

The young star is working as a landscaper during the day before he trains with the VFL side at night as he looks to earn respect back from his teammates.

"We saw tonight how important he is to us. We'd love to have him in our best 22. He's done some good things tonight and hopefully that continues," Sanderson said.

De Goey won plenty of the ball around the contest and drifted forward in the last quarter, missing a couple of shots but looking lively in attack.

Two teams, one adorned in black and the other in white, were split relatively equally based on talent in the four-quarter contest.

Will Hoskin-Elliott booted three goals, while Ben Reid was a marking target all night and finished with two goals.

The No.6 selection from last year's NAB AFL Draft, Jaidyn Stephenson, showed glimpses of his electric pace and is pushing hard for a spot in the round one side against Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday, March 24.

"He's going to be in the discussion for sure. He has to be. He's got so much talent. Incredible young player," Sanderson said.

Meanwhile, exciting forward Kayle Kirby slotted three goals in the third term to show his potential.

"He's still not probably in the physical condition that he needs to be to be a consistent AFL player, but we just saw tonight … he's got some special talent," Sanderson said.

Former Sydney defender Sam Murray showed dash and dare with his left-boot off half-back while James Aish looked good on a wing.

Big men Brodie Grundy and Mason Cox went up against each other in the ruck in the first half, before Cox swapped teams, with the American acquitting himself well.

Josh Smith has been training up forward during the summer while Sam McLarty has been trialled as a ruckman recently.

Darcy Moore (Achilles), Daniel Wells (Achilles), Jamie Elliott (ankle), Alex Fasolo (shoulder), Jeremy Howe (calf) and Levi Greenwood (knee) all missed the match through injury.

Brayden Maynard also sat out, but is expected to be fit for the club's first JLT Community Series game against Greater Western Sydney on Thursday, March 1.
