JONATHAN O'Rourke's bid to force his way back into Hawthorn's senior side has been delayed, with the talented midfielder facing up to a month on the sidelines recovering from a strained hamstring.

Meanwhile, injury-prone small forward Zac Webster has suffered yet another setback with a soft-tissue complaint.

O'Rourke, who was dropped two weeks ago after struggling for touch in the opening three rounds, pulled up with a three-to-four week hamstring injury in Box Hill's narrow VFL win over Coburg.

It continues a frustrating run of injuries for the former No.2 draft pick, with O'Rourke's two seasons at Greater Western Sydney blighted by hamstring issues and a broken jaw.

O'Rourke finally put together a full pre-season leading into 2016 and the 22-year-old averaged 16 touches in the opening three rounds before being sent back to the VFL to find more of the football.

Webster is facing one-to-two weeks on the sidelines after suffering a minor hamstring strain playing for Box Hill's development team in his second game back after a pre-season quad injury.

The luckless 20-year-old Tasmanian suffered the quad issue with the final kick during warm-up in what would have been his first match in brown and gold in the Hawks' NAB Challenge opener in Launceston against Carlton.

Webster had hoped to put his four torn hamstrings, which ruined his 2015 campaign, behind him after undertaking Cyril Rioli's specialised strengthening program over the summer.

Schoenmakers missed the Hawks' third-straight three-point win over Adelaide due to a "grumbly" groin he's carried since the start of the season.
