The 24-year-old Richmond forward has racked up many impressive personal accolades in his six-year career including the 2010 and2012 Coleman medals, the 2010 club best and fairest and an All Australian guernsey the same year.
He said playing his role for the side, which centres around kicking and being involved in goals, remained his "No.1 goal" but had put a strong focus on what comes outside of that.
This season, which starts for the Tigers on Thursday night against Carlton, Riewoldt is looking beyond the personal glitter and wants to be a better team man.
"It gets to the stage in your career where you start to look past individual stuff," Riewoldt told richmondfc.com.au's 'Talking Tigers' podcast this week.
"For my personal goals, a lot of them stem into how the forward line goes this year.
"Especially early on in your career, you look to get a game, then you want to have an impact, and then you want to be regarded as a senior player, week in, week out.
"And then it gets to the stage where you haven't had as much [team] success as what you want, and you start to look outside the box a little bit. How can I improve Jake King? How can I improve Tyrone Vickery?
"So, my goals this year are purely based around improving my teammates."
Riewoldt kicked 65 goals last season, 62 in 2011 and 78 in 2010 as the Tigers' most dominant goal kicker.
He said outside of performing his designated role, he wanted to ensure he took on more leadership as a senior member of the Tigers' outfit.
"But then it's how can I improve? How can I become a better leader to make the Richmond football club better?" he said.
"I'll just continue to work along that selfless line of trying to improve the team, trying to improve our midfield, trying to improve our backline.
"Hopefully, that can lead us to where we want to go this year and in years to come."
