Power confirm Paddy Ryder and Angus Monfries will miss the NAB Challenge
Port confirms ex-Bombers will not play in the NAB Challenge
PORT ADELAIDE has confirmed it made the decision to pull star ruckman Patrick Ryder out of Friday night's Indigenous All Stars clash against West Coast.
The Power big man and teammate Angus Monfries will not take part in any AFL-sanctioned match, including the NAB Challenge until the League's Anti-Doping tribunal has made a determination on any potential suspensions for the 34 past and present players involved in the Bombers' 2012 supplements regime.
Ryder was named in the All Stars squad for Friday night's match at Medibank Stadium in Perth, but was notably absent from the final team.
The Power's general manager of football Chris Davies said the club had decided not to apply to have the players' provisional suspensions lifted for the NAB Challenge.
"It was determined the best course of action, given the circumstances, was to wait until the tribunal had made its determination," Davies said.
"We're looking forward to this situation being resolved."
The AFL declined to comment on the situation when contacted by AFL.com.au, saying it was a club matter.
The Power have pre-season matches against West Coast (March 8), Richmond (March 14) and Adelaide (March 21).
The anti-doping hearing concluded on Tuesday at the Victorian County Court after all parties delivered their oral closing submissions one day ahead of schedule.
The Tribunal will now consider the evidence and submissions before deciding if there was a breach of the AFL Anti-Doping Code during the Bombers' 2012 supplements program.
