ESSENDON has revealed the specially designed jumper it will wear against Carlton on Friday night to celebrate the club's 140-year history.

The jumper will have the club's five previous emblems throughout its history watermarked into the red sash, with its current emblem placed at the top of the sash.

It also features a 140-year logo, marking the milestone from when Essendon played its first competitive match against Carlton on June 7, 1873, with the club winning by one goal.

Midfielder David Zaharakis said he was looking forward to wearing the jumper and celebrating Essendon's history.

"The concept of the old Essendon logos and symbols down the sash is really good, and I think it's great to show the history of the club," Zaharakis told AFL.com.au.

"Being an Essendon supporter my whole life you live the history of your club since you were born and my whole family has lived that as well.

"To play against Carlton on a Friday night is always a big game but for this celebration it's even bigger."

The Bombers will celebrate the occasion with pre-match entertainment, including a guard of honour featuring its 16 premiership cups and 16 past players.

The club will also sell a limited edition version of the 140-year commemorative guernsey.
