Lions Captain Jonathan Brown has been cleared by the AFL’s Match Review Panel and is free to face Sydney at the Gabba this weekend.

Brown was reported by umpire Troy Pannell for engaging in rough conduct against Carlton midfielder Marc Murphy during the fourth quarter of the Lions’ Round Two match against Carlton at Etihad Stadium last Saturday night.

The match-day report laid against the Lions skipper was assessed by the AFL’s Match Review Panel on Monday.

It was the view of the panel that Brown did not drive his knee into Murphy. The action was a push into Murphy’s legs with minimal force. Given the level of force, no further action was required.

Meanwhile, Lions Vice-Captain Luke Power was also cleared by the AFL tribuanl after challenging a charge for making contact with an umpire.

Power was initially charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Ray Chamberlain).

He was offered a $1950 sanction with an early plea, but chose to contest the report on Tuesday. A review of the incident cleared Power of any wrongdoing.
