THERE ARE different thought processes around trading in the early rounds. The sensible thing is to make sure you have the best cash cows for the long term, knowing that they’ll make the coin you need to help improve your team.
Nic Newman (DEF, $175,000) has been the most popular player under $200,000 picked up this week. The Swan scored 77 on debut.
Some coaches are happy to pay the extra dollars for Will Hoskin-Elliott (FWD, $317,000) who has already increased his price by $87,000. With scores of 124 and 95 in the first two weeks, his ownership has grown to more than 33 per cent.
Round two rising star nominee Ryan Burton (DEF/FWD, $293,000) was impressive against Adelaide with 112. He has been a popular inclusion for the underperforming Callum Mills.
An injury or two can present opportunity. Jack Steven (MID, $607,000) with a punctured lung must be moved on, as does George Horlin-Smith (MID, $262,000) who has had thumb surgery. A few dollars earned from the injured Cat put on top of Steven could see you nabbing one of the premium midfieders who has performed in the first two weeks.
Often frowned upon by hardcore Fantasy coaches is trading premiums. The rule of thumb is to back them in. Dan Hannebery (MID, $585,000) has dropped $70,000 and this will just be the start if he continues to average 64. Of course this won’t be the case, but before his value plummets even more, you could get on Clayton Oliver (MID, $488,000) averaging 128.5 or Marc Murphy (MID, $548,000) going at 132 points per game while pocketing some cash.
The Traders will be chatting all things Fantasy from 6pm AEST. Roy, Calvin and Warnie discuss the ins and outs for round three, the best captaincy options and they’ll be taking your questions to help you ahead of Friday’s 7:50pm AEST lockout.
