In early 2016, people aspiring to coach and manage elite umpires will have the opportunity to undertake the inaugural AFL Executive Certificate (High Performance Umpire Coaching/Management).
The course has been developed by the AFL Umpiring Department in conjunction with AFL Sportready (Umpire AFL’s Coaching Education partner).
The course will commence with a three-day intensive workshop in Melbourne next March. This workshop will include prominent keynote speakers, practical coaching scenarios and education in areas including Strategic Planning, Change Management, Presentation Skills and Cultural Awareness.
Following the course, participants will undertake assignments that will be linked in to a tertiary Masters unit as well as practical assessments and personal development opportunities.
National Umpiring Development Manager Adam Davis is excited about this new opportunity for aspiring umpire coaches and managers. “This area has been a critical gap in our umpiring development program” Davis said.
“Earlier this year we made a significant investment in educating our greatest resource – the community umpire coach. This course continues our focus on ensuring our umpires at all levels of the game are supported by suitably experienced coaches”.
“We will also have an opportunity to identify coaching talent from this course that can be considered for future coaching opportunities at AFL and State League level.”
Further information regarding course details and application process will be released this October.
