Kick Around Australia was celebrated by more than 150,000 school students around the country on Thursday, August 7.
The day also saw many organisations around Australia join in the celebrations, with employees wearing their footy scarves to work, playing kick to kick in the office and sharing birthday cakes.
AFL players from every club visited schools in the lead up to and on August 7, running footy clinics with students and teachers.
Footy’s birthday was also celebrated by Australian defence personnel stationed overseas, with troops playing matches in Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor and the Solomon Islands.
In Queensland, babies born on August 7 were presented with a commemorative football by Brisbane Lions players.
In New South Wales, 19 Swans players visited schools in the lead-up to Kick Around Australia to promote footy’s birthday, as part of the Healthy Choices program.
In South Australia, Port Adelaide and Adelaide Crows players visited schools and ran footy clinics for students.
In the Northern Territory, a highlight of the celebrations was when AFL legend Michael Long, visited Darwin’s St John’s College, where the students re-enacted the first game of Australian Football.
In Victoria, a number of organisations set up activities to celebrate Footy’s birthday with employees. AFL players also visited schools to take part in activities with students.
