MELBOURNE'S rebuilding campaign has received another boost with CEO Peter Jackson agreeing to continue in the role until at least the end of 2016.

Demons chairman Glen Bartlett announced the contract extension at a pre-match function before their clash with the Sydney Swans at the MCG on Saturday night.

Bartlett said he was delighted with the contribution Jackson had made since taking the position in May 2013 when the Demons were in dire straits both on and off the field.

Jackson spearheaded the coup that landed Sydney Swans premiership coach Paul Roos, and has overseen the appointment of Roos' future successor Simon Goodwin.

Bartlett said Jackson's recommitment to the club sent an important message to Melbourne supporters, in that it reinforced "the stability and continuity" of the club's management team.

"With the completion of the board renewal process, and with Peter continuing, I feel we are in the best place the club has been in a long time in terms of stability and capacity to drive the club forward,” Bartlett said.

"We look forward to continuing to work with Peter into the future."

Jackson's experience is seen as a key plank in Melbourne's quest to build a club and team that enjoys sustained success.
