Richmond's McBean faces nervous wait on ankle injury
Liam McBean has scans after suffering a suspected broken ankle in the VFL
RICHMOND faces an anxious wait on the fitness of young key position player Liam McBean after he suffered a suspected broken ankle in the VFL on Sunday.
Scans late on Monday will determine the extent of damage after the talented 18-year-old left the field in the third quarter of Coburg's loss to Box Hill.
McBean had registered 13 disposals and 1.4 before the injury.
Recruited with pick No.33 in the 20112 NAB AFL Draft, McBean has not played at AFL level this season as he develops with VFL affiliate Coburg.
The 202cm prospect played mainly as a key defender for Vic Metro in 2012 but can also play in the ruck or push forward.
He shapes as a long-term prospect for the Tigers, who could look to rest key players against Greater Western Sydney this week.
The 24-year-old will need to complete training during the week before being cleared for selection against the Giants.
Defender Ricky Petterd will also need to be assessed during the week as he pushes to overcome hamstring soreness.
Former skipper Chris Newman, who has not played a final in his 232-game career, will need to pass a fitness test this week after missing the Carlton clash with an ankle injury.
Forward Matt White (hamstring soreness) was a late withdrawal against the Blues and will also face a fitness test.
Forwards Shane Edwards and Jake King are available for selection after overcoming hamstring injuries.
Captain Trent Cotchin suffered a bruised shin against Carlton but is expected to be available against the Giants.
What will give Brisbane the edge when they meet their old foes, Adelaide, in a preliminary?
