ENERGETIC Sydney Swans small forward Tom Papley has been rewarded for his promising maiden season, re-signing with the club for a further two years.

The 20-year-old has shown plenty since making an eye-catching debut in the season-opening round against Collingwood, celebrating his first game by booting three goals in the 80-point win at the SCG.

He later earned the round five NAB AFL Rising Star nomination after collecting 20 disposals and kicking two goals against West Coast.

Swans football manager Tom Harley said Papley had shown his enormous potential since being recruited with pick No.14 in last year's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"Tom has been an exciting young player for us this season," Harley said on the club's website.

"He has come into our side and made a solid contribution with his forward pressure and determination in the contest.

"We're really looking forward to watching Tom's progression as he continues to learn and grow in our team."

Papley has appeared in 11 games for the Swans so far this season and has kicked as many goals.

Interestingly, both his grandfathers – Max Papley and Jeff Bray – played for South Melbourne in the 1960s, so it was only fitting the Swans recruited the youngster.

The Gippsland Power product kicked 33 goals in his 15 appearances last season playing as an over-age player.

After nominating for the last two national drafts and being rejected on both occasions, the Swans offered the 176cm livewire a lifeline in the rookie draft.
