FREMANTLE forward Cam McCarthy is recovering in hospital where he was taken for assessment after collapsing at training on Wednesday morning.

The 25-year-old was completing non-contact training with a group of teammates before he suddenly fell to the ground.

By the time an ambulance arrived, McCarthy was able to walk to the vehicle on his own volition.

"He was immediately assessed by our medical staff and an ambulance was called," Dockers head of football Peter Bell said.

"Cam was subsequently admitted to hospital, where he is undergoing further assessment and tests to determine the possible cause of the collapse and what treatment will be required.

"We will be in a position to comment further in due course.

"In the meantime, we will ensure that Cam and his family are provided with all the necessary care and support required."

The Dockers are set to fly to the Gold Coast hub next Tuesday before their season resumes against Brisbane on June 13 at the Gabba.

Coach Justin Longmuir said it was too early to determine whether McCarthy would join teammates on the flight east.

"Our doctor's recommendation was that Cam go to hospital and get checked out," Longmuir said.

"At the moment our mind is on Cam's health and wellbeing. We'll work out what that means for the hub and what that looks like after we get the medical recommendations.

"We hope to get those recommendations and results - maybe in the next day or so, I'm not sure. We’ll work out the rest from there."

After facing the Lions, the Dockers meet Port Adelaide, Gold Coast and Adelaide with all matches scheduled at Metricon Stadium.
