CLUBS will have to rely on goodwill to see rival players from scratch matches across the competition, with an understanding that vision will be shared amongst teams.

Players not in senior AFL teams will be playing in modified practice games against other clubs to ensure they are ready for a call up at the top level.

The games, which will be arranged amongst clubs and could feature fewer than 18 players per side depending on injury lists, are approved by the AFL but not registered games.

This week there have been six games organised by clubs to satisfy match practice for players outside of their starting sides, including Wednesday night's clash between Richmond and Collingwood.

Six clubs have chosen not to partake in practice games in the revamped round two.

Access to watch these games will be extremely limited, with participating clubs filming the games for coaching and education purposes. They will not be broadcast.

AFL.com.au understands list managers will be permitted to attend the scratch matches of games when their club is participating, and must be seated within the corporate box areas.

But it is also believed an agreement has been reached whereby clubs will share the game footage so that list managers and recruiters from around the League can study opposition tapes.

Watching lower levels and players outside of the senior team is a crucial aspect of list managers' respective roles as they target potential recruits to add to their squad.

While it is clearly unusual practice for clubs to be sharing vision of their own players, list managers contacted by AFL.com.au said the ability to watch all other clubs outweighed the potential cost of having their players scouted by rivals.

In round one clubs were given access to have one scout at games for teams who play against competing teams in the following two weeks.

That saw Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson head to Marvel Stadium to watch Essendon and Fremantle in the opening round because the Hawks were scheduled to meet Fremantle the following week.

However it is understood that rule has been revoked under the guidelines for the season restart.
