With pick No.37 taken off the table, Suns' football operations manager Marcus Ashcroft said Gorringe was never going to be traded.
"Unfortunately Port weren't able to come up with a deal that we were happy with," Ashcroft said.
"Obviously their efforts were concentrated on Paddy Ryder. From our point of view we're rapt to have Dan with our club next year.
"As I've said right the way through, we think he's part of our core, a required player at our footy club for 2015, and we think he can play some really good footy."
Port Adelaide's list manager Jason Cripps said the Power discussed various permutations with Gold Coast including bringing other clubs into the equation.
"We had discussions with Gold Coast around a whole range of options involving other clubs," Cripps said.
"We just weren't able to broker a deal that suited everyone."
Gorringe has played just 20 games in four seasons at the Suns after he was recruited with pick 10 in the 2010 NAB AFL draft.
He managed just three games in 2014. Despite requesting a trade home, Ashcroft felt that Gorringe would be ready to get stuck into pre-season and a fifth year at the Suns.
"His preference was to get home to Adelaide, and if we could get a deal great, but if not, he also understands that's the nature of trade week," Ashcroft said.
"If we couldn’t get a deal to satisfy Gold Coast, he knew he'd be with our footy club next year and he's going to come back first day of pre-season ready to go."
