COLLINGWOOD has signed in-demand free agent Tyson Goldsack to a new three-year deal.

In a coup for the Magpies, Goldsack has resisted offers from opposition clubs and will now remain at the club until the end of the 2017 season.

The 27-year-old had reportedly received interest from Port Adelaide, although the unrestricted free agent maintained throughout that he wanted to remain at the club that drafted him with pick No. 63 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.

"Basically, I wanted to stay. That's what it came down to," Goldsack said.

"I've been here for eight years now and I don't think there is a better place to play football and get the best out of yourself than Collingwood."

Magpies director of football Rodney Eade said Goldsack was an integral member of Collingwood's side.

"Tyson has always been a selfless, team-oriented player but this year his role within the team grew, on and off the field," Eade said.

"His voice, his constructive input, his demands of team-mates all improved. He really seized the opportunity to shoulder more responsibility. 

"We're very happy that he will be with Collingwood for the long term."

Goldsack played 20 games in 2014, filling the role of the club's pressure forward early in the season and then showing his versatility to cover the losses of Nathan Brown and Ben Reid as the third tall in defence.

The 2010 premiership-winning Magpie has played 124 games in eight seasons at the club.
