Giants forward over ankle injury and ready for round one
GREATER Western Sydney forward Jeremy Cameron expects to play in Saturday's opening-round derby against the Sydney Swans, after initially being concerned about an ankle injury.
The 2013 All Australian rolled an ankle in the Giants final pre-season practice game against Adelaide last Friday.
Cameron will test it out at training on Friday, but was confident he would be right to tackle the Swans in the first match between the two clubs at the Giants main home ground.
"I'll probably have a bit of a test tomorrow just to see how I go," the club's leading goal kicker said on Thursday morning.
"I'll go from there, but it's feeling pretty good.
"At this stage, I would expect to play."
Cameron said he was concerned at the time he got the injury, which he revealed was the result of friendly fire.
"When it first happened, I was kind of in a bit of shock," he said.
"I've never really rolled an ankle before and when you look at it, I actually trod on (Giants defender) Phil Davis's foot, so that was the reason behind me rolling my ankle.
"At first I was probably down for a little while and a bit scared to put any weight on it.
"But when I did I could walk around and it was starting to free up as I tried to get off the ground.
"That was encouraging signs, and then a lot of ice after that."
