But Beams' manager Paul Connors remains bullish that he can broker a deal that will send the Magpie midfielder north during this NAB AFL Trade Period.
The potential stumbling block, according to Lions list manager Dean Warren, is Beams' contract (signed until the end of 2015).
Warren thinks the Lions' No.4 pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft is fair compensation for Collingwood but the Pies are reluctant to accept that trade.
That could mean the Lions - and Beams - will be forced to wait 12 months, says Warren.
"There's no way in the world we're going to actually trade our young talent ... that's starting to mature and get us to where we need to be," Warren
told NAB AFL Trade Radio.
"We think pick four is very fair, but we do understand that Dayne is contracted.
"If we have to wait, we might have to wait until he's out of contract the following year."
A recent trip to Byron Bay to visit his father – who is in remission after cancer treatment – confirmed Beams' desire to move from the Magpies.
Collingwood is desperate to not give Beams up without a fight, even being prepared to accommodate his wishes and allow him to spend more time in Brisbane should he remain at the Magpies.
But his manager Paul Connors put a clear line through that idea.
Connors also said that both he and Beams wanted to deal "exclusively" with the Lions.
"I think Brisbane will be able to do a better deal than Gold Coast," Connors said.
"He misses (former Magpie, now Giant) Heath Shaw and a few other things, but he 99 per cent wants to go home and play with family.
"At this stage I'd like to deal exclusively with Brisbane.
"For Collingwood's sake even, they'd be better off dealing with Brisbane."
