Bomber Nick Kommer signs until end of 2016 after strong debut season
ESSENDON has extended Nick Kommer's contract by two years, tying him to the club until the end of 2016.
Kommer, 23, had an excellent debut season after being a late pick (no.73) in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.
He played 19 games, missing two games through suspension and the final match with a hand injury.
It was an outstanding effort from the mature-aged East Perth recruit, particularly given the turmoil surrounding the Bombers last season.
Kommer told essendonfc.com.au he was excited to extend his contract and was happy to develop his game as a tough forward.
"We have a pretty strong midfield so I will keep working up forward and try to have more of an impact on the scoreboard, but hopefully I can push through there over time," he said.
Dons coach Mark Thompson said Kommer had laid a great foundation for a good career.
"To play 19 games in his debut season is a credit to the way he attacks his football and he has become an important part of our forward line structure," Thompson said.
Kommer kicked just 10 goals but his forward pressure was impressive and he was second at the club for tackles inside 50.
