After heavy rain in recent weeks in Sydney, there were fears over the quality of the ground for next Friday night's game.
There were also concerns of a possible clash with the NRL finals.
But the AFL has confirmed the game will go ahead at ANZ Stadium on Friday, September 19, as the venue will not host any commitments between last Saturday's qualifying final and the preliminary final.
The Swans will play the winner of this week's clash between Geelong and North Melbourne.
Hawthorn will host the second preliminary final on Saturday, September 20, at the MCG against the winner of this weekend's Fremantle v Port Adelaide game.
The start time of that preliminary final is yet to be announced and will be dependent upon whether it is the Dockers or Power who advance.
The AFL has been working with partner airline Virgin to allow the travelling team to return from Melbourne to either Adelaide or Perth that night after the game.
