"Look through the lens and join us as we stare directly into the future and the road to 2018 for the St Kilda Football Club."

ST KILDA will use its season launch next month to outline the club's strategic plan that will be designed to deliver its next premiership.

The rebuilding Saints announced in an open letter to supporters in December last year they are working on a process that would take them from this year to 2018.

They will unveil this plan to those in attendance at the March 13 season launch, with guests invited to the function receiving unique invitations this week that includes a pair of red sunglasses.

The invitation asks guests to "look through the lens" as the club focuses on the future and the path to 2018 at their "season launch with a difference", to be held at St Kilda's National Theatre.

Coach Alan Richardson, president Peter Summers will not only talk about the upcoming season but also the strategic plan designed to deliver that elusive second flag.

"We are More Than A Football Club and our future starts now. Be a part of it," the invitation says.

Summers said in December the Saints were "putting the final touches" to a "constantly evolving document" that was the strategic plan for 2014 to 2018.

"The strategic plan will set out a very clear pathway and put into context the work that has been undertaken over the last few years," Summers said then.

"We are confident this will give you, our members, a real perspective of our direction.

"We see list management and player development as a critical component of building that success. We are confident that our list management strategy is on track.

"At one level it contemplates our immediate requirements, but very much keeps in perspective our future.

"Twenty eight new players in three years is testimony to the recent significant transition of our list.

"Head of football Chris Pelchen and his recruiting team are constructing a list that we believe will position us to be a top four side that is consistently positioned as a premiership contender by 2018."

Summers also said a "meaningful return" to Moorabbin would be a major priority as the club looked to install its own VFL team to play out of St Kilda’s spiritual home by 2016.

"This will be a significant moment for all Saints fans and reinforce our commitment to our heartland and building on our talent pathway and academy structure," he said.

The Saints have already locked in a game in New Zealand on Anzac Day for the next five seasons and again want to surpass the 40,000-member mark it cleared in 2010.

Last year, early season losses saw membership drop to 32,748.

Summers also announced in December they had appointed Bluestone Edge – a sports consultancy company – to "undertake a culture and leadership review of our business", with the results to be shared with members when collated.

The Saints are still yet to appoint a CEO to replace Michael Nettlefold, who resigned in September last year.

Former AFL operations manager and now Cycling Australia CEO Adrian Anderson denied reports on Monday that he was poised to take the role.
