There has been plenty of speculation early in the new year about how recruit Lance Franklin will work in a forward line that potentially includes Kurt Tippett, Sam Reid, Adam Goodes and Lewis Roberts-Thomson.
Franklin and Roberts-Thomson will make their season debuts in the Swans' NAB Challenge match against West Coast this Thursday alongside Reid, who impressed against Greater Western Sydney last week.
Goodes and Tippett are still some weeks away from returning as they both battle knee problems.
Reid is confident that when all of the forward options are fit and firing, they can work in the same set-up.
"I think the beauty of our tall forwards, Goodesy, Buddy, myself, I don’t think we're strictly limited to just that one spot being a tall and having to crash the packs," he said.
"We're all reasonably mobile for big guys and we can get up the ground and move around and hopefully be a bit of a nightmare to match up on."
Reid is the forward most often mentioned as likely to change positions to accommodate Franklin's arrival, with the athletic 22-year-old spending a small amount of the pre-season so far in defence.
Reid, who signed a five-year deal with the club in December 2011, is considered a critical member of the line-up by the Swans' coaching staff and would be prepared to shift into the backline if required.
"I'd be comfortable (with that)," he said. "I played my entire first year in the reserves - back, mainly - and I was drafted as a defender.
"If I went back there and needed to play on someone, I'd be happy to do it to help the team."
Reid is just grateful to be back at full fitness after a worrying quad issue ruined his 2013 campaign.
He first suffered a tear in round nine against Collingwood, keeping him out for a month, and lasted just 10 minutes upon his return before tearing it again.
But a very slow, deliberate program has him in outstanding shape, kicking a team-high three goals in last week's opening pre-season victory over GWS.
"It was pretty frustrating doing the same thing again and it did slow me down, but I worked hard over the off-season and I'm fully fit," he said.
"I was trying to get back for the finals and ran out of time in the end.
"We took it easy over the off-season, a gradual increase of load into the year, and it's turned out well.
"It felt good getting out there last week and it's been a good start to the year."
Despite the fact they can fill similar positions, Reid was thrilled the club made the move to sign Franklin and can't wait to line up next to him in Blacktown.
"It was exciting," he said. "Obviously he's a really talented player and one of the best in the AFL, so I knew it could only help us and I was really psyched to start playing with him.
"It'll be good for him to get some game time and start getting used to jelling with the other forwards and the Swans' style of footy.
"I'm sure he'll pick that up quickly.
"He works well with the forwards, he's definitely not a selfish player, he's always looking for the best option for the team."
While Franklin has brought enormous attention to the Swans this pre-season, Vergara's arrival also sparked a minor frenzy among the waiting media pack on Tuesday.
In Australia for some filming of her hit television show, it was Vergara's fiancé Nick – a noted sports fan – who was keen to check out the Swans' training session.
"I did see Sofia here – and she looked all right," Reid said with a laugh.
"There are bigger (Modern Family) fans than me, but I do like the show.
"I think John (Longmire) missed the last 15 minutes of training having a chat."
