By committing to the Blues, Yarran would be turning his back on a possible return to Western Australia when he was due to come out of contract at the end of this season.

 

After the club secured important midfielder Bryce Gibbs to a new five-year deal on Tuesday, acting chief executive Andrew McKay confirmed the Blues were close to re-signing Yarran.   

 

"Chris is pretty close – you should hear about that hopefully in the next few days," McKay told SEN.  

 

"[Length] is still up for negotiation to a degree but hopefully on the two [years]."

 

Yarran, 23, has played all but one game this season and averaged 16.6 disposals, providing his usual dash from the back half and through the midfield.

 

Recruited from WA with pick No.6 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, he could have been the subject of a recruiting drive from West Coast or Fremantle at the end of the season.
