The Western Bulldogs are seeking a Opposition Analyst and game strategist to assist our coaching team with the development of our players.
In conjunction with the Senior Coach & Senior Assistant Coach, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Conduct, manage and oversee all areas of opposition analysis by providing comprehensive information and coverage across the entire industry.
- Monitor trends and styles ensuring this is communicated to all key stakeholders within the football department.
- Observe opposition training when required and report to the coaching panel a detailed team and individual analysis.
- Working in conjunction with coaches to formulate game plans to break down the opposition in particular: team selection, match ups and training.
- Service and provide support to the coaching panel in formulating strategies with regards to game day preparation, tactics, match ups, etc.
- Compile opposition presentation information in conjunction with the Senior Coach and Senior Assistant Coach and present in a competent and confident fashion to the combined player/football staff.
- Compile and present smaller more specific statistical and video packages to prepare Line Coaches and Players for the upcoming opposition.
- Interact directly with players individually in regards to upcoming opponents.
- Provide additional input to the coaching box game day, specifically in regards to opposition tendencies, player movement, style, trends and relevant performance indicators.
- Contribute to List Management and the recruiting process as a senior AFL player consultant.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 5-7 years’ AFL coaching experience. 2-3 years coaching box experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a highly visible, high pressure environment with multiple stakeholders and demanding operational needs within a AFL football club.
- Knowledge in using SPORTSCODE and Champion Data.
- Advance level of comfort within IT environments and software tools.
- Experience in the use of statistics to identify player and team performance trends will be highly valued.
- A proven track record of developing relationships with football players and experience in delivering appropriate technical, tactical and physical parameter reports to coaching staff at elite football club.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (inc. presentation, education and training skills)
- Ability to present complex data and information with impact (verbally, visually and in written form)
- Organisational skills, strong work ethic and ability to excel within a collaborative environment.
