From cheap backline cash cows to premium midfield maestros, The Traders are ready to show you the quick path to NAB AFL Fantasy glory. Over the next 30 days, they'll hand pick 30 fit-for-purpose players for your starting AFL Fantasy squad.

Today we name a Magpie with attitude who is nicely priced and ready to terrorise your Fantasy opponents.

ALEX Fasolo is as cheap as chips in 2014. He has now been in the AFL system for three years and only managed to play three games last year.

Fantasy lock-ins: forwards

- Nathan Bock (Gold Coast)
- Gary Rohan (Sydney Swans)

He averaged 49 Fantasy points in those games and because he played so little, he comes ‘rookie priced’ at a tempting $208,400. Based on this alone, Fasolo is a dead set bargain!

Due to a limited pre-season, Fasolo’s first game for 2013 was in the VFL. It was round three when he first pulled on the black and white stripes but wore the dreaded green vest to start with.

He came on late making an immediate impact and finished with 53 Fantasy points in less than half a game. He scored a solid 67 the following week before struggling against Essendon in round five with just 7 disposals (26 points).

From there, things turned sour very quickly. It was back to the VFL for Fasolo from where he promptly got suspended. To rub salt into the wound, he then injured his navicular bone at training. And that was it, his season was over.

Let me put on my doctor’s hat and stethoscope here and fill you in on this complex injury. Of all stress fractures, the navicular type is one of the worst for a running athlete like Fasolo.

It’s a small bone that can be located at the top of the arch of the foot and due to the poor blood supply there, it doesn’t heal quickly, meaning that surgery and a lengthy recovery period is often needed.

Fasolo can score and has scored well in the past. In 2013, he did average 73 and did so with many scores in the 60s and 70s, numbers that you would expect from a small forward.

He dominated in round 23 against Essendon and had his best ever Fantasy score of 118 points that day when he racked up 22 disposals and 12 marks.

But is he fit and will he play in 2014?

“He has been managed to ensure his foot injury doesn’t return,” Nick Maxwell said recently when I caught up with the ex-skipper.

“He’ll definitely feature. We know he’s class and a quality ball user so he’s obviously someone we want up front” said Maxwell.

That’s good enough for me!

LOCKABILITY: 4/5

The poor kid was always going to be fighting an uphill battle, ever since the day that Simon Prestigiacomo passed on his number 35 to him.

Presti was far from a Fantasy hall of famer, averaging around 25 points a game over his career. I can reassure you  that Fasolo is way better than that.

Priced cheaper than most rookies, he could be the Brent Macaffer of 2013. At this price and if fit, Fasolo is one of the biggest cash cows you’ll see this year. Get on!
