CARLTON has re-signed rookies Cameron Wood and Blaine Johnson.

 

Wood, who made a sizeable impact as the Blues' preferred ruckman late last season, has put pen to paper for a further two years.

 

Johnson, who managed five senior games in his first year at Carlton, has inked a one-year deal.

 

Wood, recruited after a season playing for Williamstown in the VFL, played the final six games of the season with Matthew Kreuzer still sitting on the sidelines.

 

He will have more opportunities to add to his overall tally of 70 senior games at the Blues, following three years at the Brisbane Lions and five seasons at Collingwood.

 

Blues football manager Andrew McKay said Wood provided important depth in regard to the club's ruck stocks.

 

"Cameron had a great finish to the season and played a number of senior games off the rookie list," McKay said.

 

"We're confident he will keep improving and we're delighted he will be with us for the next two years."

 

Johnson's hard-nosed approach won plenty of admirers in his debut season at Carlton and the club is hopeful the 19-year-old will continue to develop at a speedy rate.

 

"Blaine is a diligent young man who trains hard and obviously got his opportunity through long-term injuries to other players," McKay said.

 

"Now that he has had a taste of senior football we’re confident he will be hungry for more and will continue to press his case for senior selection."
