Dempster off the market after signing one-year deal
Veteran signs a one-year deal, joining Jarryn Geary in re-committing
SEAN Dempster will play on for another season after becoming the second St Kilda player to re-sign in as many days.
The 30-year-old joins fellow defender Jarryn Geary as recommitted Saints, after the latter confirmed a two-year extension on Wednesday.
Dempster crossed to the Saints at the end of 2007 from the Sydney Swans, who he won a premiership with in 2005 before playing in a losing Grand Final side the following year.
He's since become a key pillar in the Saints' back six across his 123 games for the club.
"The Saints have been fantastic and I couldn't ask for a better club to be involved with," Dempster told the club's website.
"They've shown faith in me by offering the contract so I am happy to be part of the Saints family for an extra year."
The Saints consider Dempster as one of their most respected players, which is reflected in his recent standings in the best and fairest.
He finished third in 2011 and 2012 – the year he was named All Australian - before placing seventh last year in a season he played 19 games and had to contend with an injury-plagued backline.
Dempster was drafted by the Swans in 2002 as a father-son selection after growing up in Mallacoota in Victoria.
His father Graham played 64 games for South Melbourne between 1972 and 1979.
