WEST Coast's forward guns Josh Kennedy and Mark LeCras have kicked nine goals between them in an intraclub match at Patersons Stadium on Tuesday.

And while that pair peppered the goals (Kennedy with five and LeCras with four), another star forward Jack Darling spent time in the midfield.

2012 draft pick Brant Colledge, former Lion Elliot Yeo and Simon Tunbridge (a rookie last year) were also used in the midfield with Colledge said to be in impressive form.

It was also good news for injury-troubled recruits Sharrod Wellingham (from Collingwood at the end of 2012) and Xavier Ellis (the ex-Hawk who arrived at West Coast at the end of last season).

Wellingham - who is working his way back from a bone stress reaction in his shin - played a half before being rested and XavierEllis also managed a half.

The Eagles elected to hold their first full practice match behind closeddoors in preparation for next week's NAB Challenge match againstFremantle at Arena Joondalup.

AFL.com.au was told that Scott Lycett and Callum Sinclair also performed well in their ruck duels with veteran Dean Cox.

Majority of West Coast's squad took part in the hit-out - as well as 10 players from affiliate WAFL club East Perth - but star ruckman Nic Naitanui did not play.

Naitanui was rested after a gruelling individualfitness session on Monday. The club plans to ease him through thepre-season.

Beau Waters was also unavailable due to his ongoing shoulderissues.

Ellis told the Eagles' website after the match that he was really pleased with where his body was at following a solid pre-season.

"It's been really good. I haven't missed a training session," Ellis said.

"Ihaven't been able to say that for a few years so it was good to getout there and play a game and not get subbed off. I'm fit and reallylooking forward to what the Eagles can produce this year."

Midfielder Luke Shuey told westcoasteagles.com.au that the match was not of a high standard but the players got plenty out of it.

"It wasn't quite AFL standard, intraclubs never really are, but we got some really good stuff out of it," Shuey said.

"There was some really good positive stuff from our young guys so we're looking forward to Freo next week."

Shuey believes the practice match showed that the playing group had responded to the challenges the new coaching staff had thrown at them.

"I think we've jelled together really well given all the new terminology and the new stuff we're trying over the summer," Shuey said.

"I thought all of the young guys really adapted well. It looked like they'd been playing for a few years which is a great positive for us and it looks as though most guys have taken another step forward in their development."
