Roos sleepless over dispiriting Dees loss
Paul Roos says he failed as a coach in Sunday's huge loss
PAUL Roos feels he failed as a coach on Sunday, noting he isn't divorced from responsibility when it comes to Melbourne's woeful performance.
The Demons were booed off the MCG after suffering a 64-point loss to Greater Western Sydney, who had one fit man on the bench during the second half.
"We as coaches take responsibility, there's absolutely no question. That's why you don't sleep after the game," Roos told Fox Footy on Monday.
"A lot of emotions and thoughts go through your head.
"I feel responsible for not just this year, but the past seven years. That's how attached you get to a footy club.
"I believe in the players more than the players believe in themselves."
Roos said there was "no question" he failed on Sunday.
"Absolutely. You feel helpless ... the only reason coaches exist is to make the players better and the team better," he said.
The man who helped end the Sydney Swans' 72-year premiership drought added it was "probably the most frustrating game" he had been involved in.
Roos also explained the rationale behind not addressing the players after the dispiriting loss.
"You can damage relationships after games like that, you start going and say things you regret," he said.
"I just felt after that game ... there was really no point in talking to the players after the game because there wasn't a lot to be gained from doing it."
