AFL.com.au understands that Bolton is among the final three candidates for the top job at the Crows following the axing of Brenton Sanderson just over a fortnight ago.
Port Adelaide assistant Phil Walsh and former Hawthorn premiership player and current Sydney Swans assistant coach Stewart Dew are also in contention.
Bolton coached five senior games for the 2014 premiers in the absence of Alastair Clarkson who was diagnosed with a rare condition called Guillane-Barre syndrome in late May.
He has a 100 per cent record, winning all five of those games.
