The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the opening six matches in the NAB Challenge, played between February 12-17. The following charges were laid:
Charges Laid:
Aaron Edwards, Richmond, has been charged with a Level One Striking Offence (80 demerit points, reprimand) for striking Bernie Vince, Melbourne, during the third quarter of the NAB Challenge match between Richmond and Melbourne played at Etihad Stadium on Friday February 14, 2014.
In summary, due to a six-year good record, he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One Offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand. He has an existing six-year good record, reducing the penalty by 25 per cent to 60 points and a reprimand. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 40 points and a reprimand.
Brock McLean, Carlton, has been charged with a First Offence for Making Reckless Contact with an Umpire ($2600 sanction) for making reckless contact with umpire Robert O’Gorman during the third quarter of the NAB Challenge match between Carlton and North Melbourne, played at North Ballarat on Saturday February 15, 2014.
In summary, he can accept a $1950 sanction with an early plea.
A first offence for making reckless contact with an umpire is a $2600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1950 sanction.
