WESTERN Bulldogs defender Easton Wood will miss the remainder of the season after scans revealed he broke his hand in Sunday’s win over St Kilda.

The 24-year-old injured his right hand in the final term during a marking contest.

"Wood will have surgery later today to stabilise the area, and will now look towards returning fit for pre-season training," the cub’s medical services manager Andrew McKenzie said.

“Wood has unfortunately sustained a broken hand in Sunday’s game and it was determined surgery was the best course of action.

“Subsequently, Easton will not be available for selection for the remainder of the season."

Out of contract at season's end, the versatile defender is a top re-signing priority for the Bulldogs after he overcame hamstring issues to produce his best season.

Wood was recruited from Geelong Grammar with pick No.43 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.
