David Mackay resists lure of free agency to sign with Adelaide
ADELAIDE midfielder David Mackay has resisted the lure of free agency and signed a four-year deal with the Crows.
Mackay had the option of a third year (2015) on his existing deal but his new contract will see him remain at West Lakes until at least the end of 2018.
The prospect of finishing his career a one-club player delighted the 26-year-old.
“I’ve spent a big part of my life at Adelaide and I’m really excited to be spending a bit more time here," Mackay told Adelaide's official website.
"I'll most likely be a one-club player now and that's pretty special to me.
"In the end I couldn't envisage myself playing with any other club, so in that sense it was a pretty easy decision.
"From what I can see, all the ingredients are here for something special and I certainly want to be part of it."
Mackay has played 120 games for the Crows since being drafted with pick No. 48 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.
He's managed 15 matches this season, averaging nearly 19 possessions and four tackles, as well as booting nine goals.
Crows head of football David Noble said Mackay was, importantly, the right type of character for the team.
Noble described the speedy wingman as an integral component of the side as it sought a premiership.
"David shares our vision and direction, and is a quality person and footballer," Noble said.
"He does not seek the limelight but his class is on show most weeks.
"His signature is yet another show of faith in what we are doing and how our list is developing.
"There is no doubt he is a crucial part in this club’s push to achieve the ultimate success."
