FOOTY fans have overwhelmingly opposed Jack Viney's two-game suspension and believe his ban should be overturned on appeal.

A whopping 91 per cent of fans who took part in AFL.com.au's poll believe the Melbourne midfielder's suspension is bad for the game.

A further 92 per cent thought contact between Viney and Adelaide's Tom Lynch was unavoidable.

Lynch suffered a broken jaw in the three-way collision, after being sandwiched between Viney and his Melbourne teammate Alex Georgiou.

Melbourne has announced it will appeal the AFL Tribunal's verdict on Thursday night.

The Demons have the public's support, with 91 per cent of poll respondents calling for the verdict to be overturned.

Fans flocked to back the club and Viney, with over 6000 people voting in the poll after the club's decision to appeal.

Doctor Peter Larkins told AFL.com.au on Wednesday that Lynch will be out of action for at least six weeks.
