ADELAIDE coach Brenton Sanderson has backed young midfielder Mitch Grigg for a breakout season with the Crows.

The 21-year-old slipped down to pick No. 41 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft and debuted for Adelaide last year.

Speaking to fans via the AFL's Twitter account, Sanderson said he thought Grigg was set for a big year in 2014.

Grigg played five of the Crows' last six matches in 2013 and averaged an impressive 18 disposals, four inside-50s and five tackles in his final three games.

He also showed he could have an impact on the scoreboard, kicking six goals.

Grigg was also a part of Norwood's SANFL Grand Final winning team last year.
