NAB AFL Fantasy scores didn’t reach the dizzy heights of last round and coaches will have plenty of questions about their sides as finals start next week.

Our newly crowned Fantasy Pig and now the most popular captain selection, Tom Rockliff, didn’t go as big as he had done in the weeks prior. This was a trend across each of the nine games. While 54 players cracked the Fantasy ton, the same amount as the high-scoring split round, Steele Sidebottom topped the round with 142.

Round 19 was an important weekend as the final round of roster matches in Fantasy Classic leagues. While teams were jockeying for positions, plenty of games went down to the wire on Sunday. Let’s look at the nine games before planning our finals campaign in the aim of claiming premiership glory.

The partial lockout kicked in at the start of the Thursday night game and an errant kick by Cameron Wood (68) handed Fremantle the four points. 

Lachie Neale (84) was on the receiving end of Wood’s kick and scored the match-winning goal to top off a fantastic final term that saw him collect 33 Fantasy points. 

Fellow midfielder Michael Barlow (124) kicked two goals and was a popular vice-captain for the round. Nat Fyfe (105) received attention from Andrew Carrazzo (76) but was very influential with 28 disposals and two goals.

Ruckman Aaron Sandilands (90) returned from an extra week off over the split round and gathered 46 hit-outs, working well in tandem with Zac Clarke (87).

Carlton's Dale Thomas (115) scored just his second Fantasy ton of the year. He took 12 marks to go with his 29 disposals - his best return since joining the Blues.

Defender Kade Simpson (112) is back in form, averaging 107 over his past three and Jarrad Waite (107) is in line for another big price rise after kicking three goals.

The 18,378 coaches with Matthew Pavlich (7) were disappointed when the forward was substituted in the second quarter due to concussion.

Prior to the match, Lance Franklin was a late withdrawal due to knee soreness. The reverse trades button copped a workout as coaches scrambled to trade out the Swans’ forward before full lockout came into effect.

Swans ruckman Mike Pyke (119) was the star of the night, racking up 49 hit-outs and kicking one goal. The Canadian had a great battle with Essendon’s Patrick Ryder (106) was finished with 15 touches and 28 hit-outs.

Continuing his stellar season, Ben McGlynn (115) kicked two goals and is now the most expensive forward in the competition. Fellow FWD/MID Luke Parker (114) was right behind him collecting a career-high 35 disposals.

With Dyson Heppell (101) and Michael Hurley (100) the only other Bombers to join Ryder in triple figures. Essendon was beaten 1716 to 1349 in the total Fantasy scores. As a result David Zaharakis (80), Paul Chapman (77), Brendon Goddard (68) and Brent Stanton (65) scored below their average.

On the back of 163 and 165 in thepast two rounds, Jake Carlisle’s (53) ownership increased significantly as coaches cashed in on his low breakeven. He took just two marks and kicked one goal, a far cry from his excellent form of the last fortnight.

The Eagles upset the Crows thanks in part to acting captain Josh Kennedy’s (126) five goals. Andrew Gaff (124) and Jack Darling (76) added three goals each.

Being a little handball happy with 22 compared to his nine kicks, Matt Priddis (100) could have boosted his Fantasy score by putting the ball onto his boot more often.

This week I was keen to grab some cash with a bench downgrade from Xavier Ellis (56) to Sam Butler (79). 

Unfortunately I was unable to go through with the trade but I'm kicking myself as Ellis was substituted out of the match, despite having 56 points at half-time.

Jeremy McGovern (80) owners were happy with his 24-disposal game. He was a common emergency for some who were unable to trade or move Franklin.

Ruckman Sam Jacobs (108) and midfielder Rory Sloane (108) were the best for the Crows. Ball-magnet Brad Crouch (106) once again demonstrated why he will be a staple member of Fantasy sides in the future with his 30 disposals and two goals.

Showing no signs of discomfort after his knee knock last week, Patrick Dangerfield (84) racked up 26 touches whilst Eagle Mark Hutchings (96) ran with him.

Midfielders Brett Deledio (125), Trent Cotchin (113) and Brandon Ellis (110) finished with 95 disposals, 20 marks and four goals between them to guide the Tigers to a 27-point win over the Giants at the MCG.

The most popular Tiger, FWD/MID Dustin Martin (74) was held to his lowest score since round six by Tomas Bugg (45). He has just four disposals at half-time but finished the game strongly to add some respectability to his score.

Playing against his former club, Anthony Miles (43) performed well below what he has since being promoted off the Tigers rookie list. Prior to the weekend he had averaged 97 points from his seven games.

Ten tackles for Toby Greene (116) and a big last half from Adam Treloar (103) saw the midfielders top score for the Giants.

The Suns won their first game without their leader Gary Ablett, running out 51-point winners against the Saints. 

Midfielder Dion Prestia (108) was the only Gold Coast player to crack the ton in what was a low-scoring game from a Fantasy perspective.

A first-quarter Achilles injury hampered David Swallow’s (57) output. He played on with his lower leg heavily strapped. Swallow was eventually substituted in the last quarter.

As the Lenny Hayes (115) farewell tour rolls on, he is reminding us that he is still a Fantasy star. Twenty-four touches, six marks and nine tackles saw him top score for the match. Jack Newnes (105) with 25 possessions and Nick Riewoldt (104) with 12 marks, 20 disposals and a goal were other solid contributors.

Riewoldt has regained form in the last month, posting 97, 89, 164 and 104 in the past four rounds. Those who got on him at under $380K will be stoked with his run of recent scores.

In a late-season resurgence, Joel Selwood (137) has posted yet another premium score to see the midfielder average 122.4 from his past five games. His 29 disposal, 12 mark and one goal performance helped his side beat the Roos under the roof on Saturday night. 

Booting three goals, FWD/MID Mitch Duncan (111) was among Geelong’s best as was Josh Caddy (111) who played his best game of the year.

A contender for Fantasy breakout player of 2014, Levi Greenwood (105) opened up with the first goal of the game and went on to knock up his eighth ton of the season. Before price movements for this week, he was the 10th most expensive player in the competition after peaking at $555,690 in round 15.

Ruckman Todd Goldstein (103) continued his excellent form with 30 hit-outs and 18 disposals.

Steve Johnson (67) was the second most popular captain selection for this week but struggled to get into the game, finishing with 20 disposals. Brent Harvey (71) is the most popular Kangaroo and he too managed just 20 touches to score below his usual output.
