WEST Coast appears set to retain the services of troubled youngster Murray Newman next season although it is unlikely he will participate in the remainder of the club’s 2014 campaign.
Newman was this week granted parole on his one-year prison sentence for fracturing a man's jaw.
He was sentenced in March to serve at least six months behind bars for causing grievous bodily harm to Brett Marris at a Perth nightclub in November 2012.
The Eagles retained Newman on their rookie list throughout 2014 and placed him on a modified fitness program while he served his sentence.
Newman is set for release next week and will meet with the club thereafter to discuss his future.
It is anticipated that Newman will be given an individual training program to prepare himself for the 2015 pre-season as the Eagles will likely retain him on their rookie list.
The 20-year-old played four matches for West Coast in 2012 after he was selected with pick no.23 in the 2011 NAB AFL draft.
He played just nine WAFL matches in 2013 before being granted a leave of absence to deal with his impending trial.
Newman's last game in the WAFL was on July 13, 2013.
He was delisted at the end of 2013 and then re-drafted via pick no.38 in the 2014 rookie draft.
