The AFL today reiterated warnings to fans to be wary of purchasing match tickets via unauthorised on-sellers to the Anzac Day game between Collingwood FC and Essendon FC at the MCG on Friday.

AFL General Manager, Commercial Operations Darren Birch repeated previous warnings about the unauthorised sale of tickets above their face value via online sites.

“Fans should practice ‘buyer beware’ because if they do not purchase their tickets through an official ticket agent then there is no guarantee that they will get what they pay for or that they will get entry to the game,” Mr Birch said.

“Where the tickets can be identified they will be cancelled in accordance with the standard terms and conditions for entry into an AFL game.”

In addition, it is believed there are some tickets in the marketplace, many sold at above face value, that are fraudulent and have been doctored before being sold to unsuspecting fans. They will not enable entry to the ground. The AFL is actively working with Victoria Police to identify the people responsible for this fraud.

The AFL notes it is the Victorian Government that declares events under the Major Sporting Events Act 2009 (Vic). The AFL will continue to work with police and the Victorian Government to ensure there are sufficient and practical measures to act as a deterrence to the unauthorized or illegal sale of tickets to AFL matches.
